Choosing your trip - Our grading levels

Family
The following information provides an overview on our grading of our Family trips. Further information of a specific nature can be found in the relevant Trip Dossier. If you are in any doubt at all regarding your suitability for a trip, please contact us and we will be glad to talk about the trip in detail and provide you with a recommendation.

Grade - easy

Our small group family activity holidays and adventures are all graded "Easy". All that you require to join these group trips is enthusiasm to try out various outdoor activities and a basic level of fitness. No previous experience of any of the activities is required, as our guides are used to working with beginners and with families.

A reasonable level of fitness is useful, as you will have a couple of full days outside. However, our guides will ensure that no-one is struggling and will pitch all activities at a level suitable for the group. Group sizes for these trips are generally 8 or 16. For trips where the group size is 16, the main group will generally be split into two smaller groups of 8, and our guides will place families of similar age and ability in the same group.

These group trips are designed for families with children aged 9 or 10 - 15 years old. However, if you have slightly younger children who are fit and active, we may be able to accommodate them on these trips - please contact us to discuss this. For families with older children, we recommend one of our trips for individual families

Grade - varied

If you have a group of at least 4 people, you can book an individual family adventure holiday with us. On a private trip, you have your own guide, so all activities will be pitched at a level appropriate for your family group, taking into account the age and fitness level of everyone in the group.

This means that some families may hike up a mountain for a guided walk, while another family may simply enjoy a leisurely nature walk in the forest. The other activities, including canoeing, sea-kayaking, mountain biking, rock-climbing and gorge-walking, will also be tailored to a suitable level for each family group.

The flexibility afforded by having your own guide means that individual family holidays are suitable for all families - even grown up families!
