Wilderness Weekends - Walking or Mountain Biking
How are you planning to spend this weekend? Why not escape from the city and relax in the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands? It's much easier than you might think!
On a Wilderness Weekend, you will travel north on the overnight train, departing on Friday evening and arriving in a small Highland village around 7.30am on Saturday morning. You will be met at the station by a Wilderness Scotland guide and transferred to a comfortable guest house, just a couple of minutes away. After enjoying breakfast and settling into your room, it is time to explore the Highland wilderness.
On Saturday and Sunday, you guide will lead you on walks (summer or winter) or take you mountain biking. In the evening, you will return to the guest house where you can enjoy dinner and a relaxing night, perhaps next to the log fire if it is a cool evening.
On Sunday evening, you will catch the overnight train back south, arriving back at London Houston station around 7.30am on Monday morning, where you disembark, refreshed and ready for the week ahead.
These experiences are not just available over weekends -we can arrange them on any dates you choose. Longer breaks are also available - please contact us for details.

Wilderness Weekends - Suggested Itineraries
Friday evening - Board the overnight sleeper heading north. Enjoy a drink in the restaurant car before retiring to your cabin with a good book. Bargain berths are sometimes available on the overnight sleeper for as little as £19 per person!
Saturday - Wake up and disembark, where our guide will be waiting to meet you. Transfer to the guest house, where you will be welcomed in and a full Highland breakfast served. After settling into your room, your guide will lead you on a day of activities.
On a walking trip, this could involve hiking in the Cairngorms, Glen Feshie or the Monadh Liath, reaching the high summits or exploring the forests and glens.
On a mountain biking itinerary, the first day is often spent at Laggan Wolftrax, one of the most exciting destinations in Scotland with a range of trails to suit all abilities. This is a great place to hone your skills under our guide's instruction.
In the evening, you'll return to the guest house and enjoy a home-cooked meal. Afterwards, relax in the lounge or visit some of the local pubs.
Sunday - Your guide will meet you after breakfast for another day of activities. As this is private guiding, each day is tailored to your requirements, so can be as easy or as challenging as you like.
On a walking break, our guide will offer suggestions for the day. On a mountain biking break, our guide will lead you on a backcountry ride, away from the trail centres on a true wilderness mountain biking route.
At the end of the day, we will drop you off at a restaurant located close to the guest house, who will store your bags for you. After dinner, collect your bags and walk 5 minutes to the station in time to catch the overnight train south.
