Choosing your trip - Our grading levels

Wilderness Walking
The following information provides an overview on our grading of our Wilderness Walking trips. Further information of a specific nature can be found in the relevant Trip Dossier. If you are in any doubt at all regarding your suitability for a trip, please contact us and we will be glad to talk about the trip in detail and provide you with a recommendation.

Our self-guided walking holidays either involve daily walks based from a guest house or hotel; or they can be point to point treks, where you hike along a long distance trail such as the West Highland Way, arriving at a new accommodation each day.

Self-Guided Walking - Long Distance Trails

On these trips, you do need a good level of fitness as you must complete the hike each day in order to reach your next accommodation. You can expect to hike for 5-8 hours per day, generally on good trails, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. You only carry a day-pack as your luggage is transferred for you.

Self-Guided Walking - Highland Escapes, Car-Free Itineraries and Highland Luxury Breaks

These trips are suitable for anyone to enjoy, regardless of fitness level. You have the flexibility to choose how you spend each day and can choose from the many walking routes described in the information pack, which are generally graded from easy to moderate plus. There are also many non-walking activities featured in the pack which are suitable for all fitness levels.This grading also applies to our John Muir Journey hiking itinerary.
