    Mini Bio

Life began as a skinny lad with a curious nature. Time was well spent roaming the countryside, ‘playing’ on the cliffs, roaming the fields and being taken to historic houses and castles by my Mum.

After 23 years in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, travelling the world for better or worse (think climbing in Colorado, walking in Scotland, skiing in Norway, kayaking in Cyprus and digging holes in other places), my lovely Scottish wife and I moved to Scotland, renovated a historic building and opened a B&B.

Currently, I’m the President of the Moray Mountaineering Club and am a Munro Compleator (having reached the summit of all Scottish 3000′ summits). With a slight change of tack, I’m now halfway through bagging Scottish malt whisky distilleries and have hosted a whisky tasting on national TV.

    Place to play

Majestic mountain landscapes such as Glencoe or the Cuillins in Skye; quiet beaches and the serenity of the Outer Hebrides; the historical sites of Orkney; and, of course, Cocoa Mountain.

As well as all over Scotland, England and Wales I’ve walked and led adventures around the globe.

With fellow adventurers, I’ve walked with penguins in the Falklands, flown with eagles in the Scottish Highlands, been a statue in front of bears in Yellowstone, avoided baboons in Namibia and missed standing on a snake somewhere, watched hatching turtles in Ascension Island and laughed with marmots in the Alps.

Then there’s the Grey Man of Macdui in the Cairngorms, that’s another story.

    Adventurer's Stories about Alistair

Alistair did a great job. He was interesting, very organized, and mindful of needs of individuals in the group. I highly recommend him as a guide.

The hiking was harder than anticipated. The trip description stated 4-7 miles a day. We did much more. Our leader was great about helping people who needed help and encouragement. I ended the trip a much stronger hiker than before. It was always an adventure each day. Our leader provided lots of variety in hiking. I would’ve liked a day of rest after a hard hiking day.

As I mentioned befroe, Alistair was great with everyone, helping those who were a bit unstable on the rocks. When the group got too far apart, he would stop the front and let the back catch up. He'd tell a story about the magical white cow or the 4 ghosts haunting Duntulm Castle or the last sighting of the Fairy Dog. Very entertaining and it kept the group cohesive. He has a great sense of humor!

Alistair was great. We had quite a mix of abilities in our group and he was very supportive and encouraging of those who struggled a bit. Really approachable and friendly

Our guides complemented each other well; one a student of history; the other of the natural world. Alistair and Ben made a very good team, I thought. They made the whole trip a great experience. They did an excellent job of managing the pace of the walk given the different tendencies of our groups' members and the minor injuries that invariably crop up during a trip like this, giving top priority to the safety of all. They were also a lot of fun, from the fitting salute to the Glengoyne Distillery on the first day to the rousing finish at the Ben Nevis Pub the night we completed our walk in Fort William. Slainte, Alistair and Ben.

Our guides were amazing. They explained what we will be doing and allowed us to walk at our pace but always regrouped us which is great. Some of us, like me, liked to walk and not talk and be focused, and others liked the talking. it was great that they were able to accomodate all of us so well.

Brilliant guides. Could not fault either of them. Whilst Nicola was new to professional guiding she was excellent

Alistair Jeffs and Nicola Byrne were excellent. They worked well together. They did well with keeping the group together and keeping an eye on those who were a bit slower or a bit faster. Nicola was our first aid pro-- she tended to so many blistered feet without batting an eye! Nicola was also good at reminding us to take breaks to take in the view, drink water, and regroup. Alistair was very knowledgeable. He was able to answer most questions, tell us entertaining stories, and keep the energy going. Alistair and Nicola were both encouraging and made the hike super fun. They made everyone confident that they could complete the WHW without issues. They also seemed genuinely interested in each one of us and made great conversation.
