    Mini Bio

Having been raised on the edge of Exmoor I have spent my life exploring hills and rivers so have known little else. I have been guiding for nearly twenty years, both on the land and on the water and Scotland has become my home.

I believe that Scotland is the greatest small country in the world and I love learning about its history and culture. Exploring this amazing country’s landscape is by far the best way to immerse yourself in its past and being able to guide people through this journey of discovery is what inspires me each day I step into a set of boots or a kayak.

    Place to Play

Not a lot of people know this

    Experience Read More

I have spent most of my years guiding in Scotland but I have also guided regularly in Australia and lived and worked over there as a guide for nearly three years.  I have also guided in the USA and of course guided in the South West of England.  Personally I have been fortunate to have wandered most of the UK, some time in Africa and Asia and bits in Europe.

    Biggest Adventure Read More

I’m currently on that right now with my three daughters.  They are now of an age where our adventures can be truly challenging and though I have done many trips that have been ‘challenging’, ‘dangerous’, ‘ardious’ and for ‘exstensive periods of time’ my biggest adventures have been with my three girls as I share their first steps into Scotland’s wilderness.

    Specialist Subject Read More

I would like to think it would be local folk lore and legend but my friends like to tease me that I am bit of geek when it comes to technical knowledge of my trade.  I have to know how something works and why it is useful.

I appear in a few guides with first ascents on rock and river.  I have been in Trail a couple of times as a feature and appeared on Radio Scotland Outdoors shows.

    Adventurer's Stories about Chris

They gave tips throughout the week on improving skills, which were very useful and then the opportunity then to put the techniques into practice through the rest of the trip.

Chris and Malcolm appeared to work excellent together. We got the impression Malcolm particularly enjoyed Chris sense of humor! This added to the overall experience of the trip.

Chris and Malcolm’s decision making during the week took full account of the groups safety whilst ensuring the experience was not diluted in any way. For anyone in the “senior” category be assured that given a reasonable level of fitness the required physicality should be manageable. Personally at 69 I enjoyed the “stretch” and the resultant sense of achievement.
