    Mini Bio

My 1 year in Scotland studying for my Masters’s degree has turned into a 27-year love affair full of adventure and fun. I was lucky to work for 15 years full-time in nature conservation and land management across Scotland. More recently I have combined ecology fieldwork with being a mountain leader and tour guide across the Highlands and Islands. I’m also an Overseas Expedition Leader and I particularly enjoy introducing young people to outdoor adventure.

I get great pleasure from the variety of landscapes and wildlife we enjoy in Scotland, whether it’s awesome and challenging mountain adventures or a quiet interaction with nature. I qualified as an STGA Green Badge Tour Guide in 2016 and have become beguiled by the history and culture of this amazing place.

    Place to Play

Despite the amazing variety in Scotland, the Cairngorms remain my special place especially when they have their coat of snow and ice.

Not a lot of people know this

I was a professional chocolate research scientist, working in the Cadbury-Schweppes labs for 6 months. I retain a strong interest in Chocolate as a key adventure fuel!

I started exploring mountains aged 17 on my Gold D of E Expedition to the Jotenheim National Park in Norway. I’ve been leading mountain walks for 30 years.

The summit of Kilimanjaro at sunrise was a very very special place, and I’ll never forget a village ceremony in remote rural Ghana as a cultural experience.

I’d have to say Scottish wildlife as I’ve researched and surveyed it for so many years. However, I’m increasingly interested in the history and culture of the Highlands and its connections across the world.

    Adventurer's Stories about Fiona

Fiona was an excellent guide…good instincts and training for dealing with people. Wish there might have been more time for her stories and history of places and events. She is articulate, knowledgeable, well-spoken. I had confidence in her judgment and leadership. Thank You, Fiona. Great job keeping it together. Joan

Did a great job in shuffling the tour given high winds and rain. Gut us back to the mainland before the ferries shut down due to high winds.

Sometimes it's nice to get family and friends together and travel privately for some quality time. This means you benefit from all the features of the group departure, including hand-picked accommodation and expert local guides and we'll take care of it all. Then you can make your choice of departures dates and we'll get back to you to finalise the details.

We work together with our team of guides to decide which departures they lead each year. As part of that, guides provide available dates that they are free to be booked. This means that any of the dates you see in the first field of the form below, could be perfect for your private departure or customised tour.
