      Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Edinburgh to Grandtully

You will be collected by your main driver guide from the airport this morning (or your accommodation if you have arrived prior to the start date) to start your journey north into the rolling hills of the beautiful Perthshire countryside.  On your way you will stop off to visit, Stirling Castle, one of the most important castles in Scottish history where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned.

After lunch at a fantastic local restaurant that serves produce from it’s own farm you will continue on to the oldest lending library in Scotland. Here you’ll meet with the Keeper of the Books before continuing onto your boutique hotel which sits beside the babbling River Tay, home for the next 4 nights. (L)

Day 2 – Hiking In Glen Lyon

Sir Walter Scott described Glen Lyon as the longest, loneliest and loveliest glen in all of Scotland and today you are going to explore this gorgeous part of the country with your experienced guide.  The autumnal colours here are some of the best in Scotland, and walking through the forest here is like walking through a fairy glen, it transports you to another world. Today you’ll also visit the Falls of Killin, a series of cascading waterfalls that will sparkle in the late afternoon autumnal sunshine. Cozy up by the fire in one of the local pubs here to watch the river and to toast a great day hiking in the Autumn Highlands. (B, L)

Day 3 – Unique Wildlife Tour & Afternoon Tea

This morning you will head up into the hills that surround your hotel with a kilted ranger in a Land Rover.  Listen out for the roar of the rutting stags, a truly unique sound that echos through the hills and glens at this time of year.  The mountainsides blaze bright with colour at this time of year, deep purples from the heather and the beautiful burnt orange of the bracken take your breath away. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive mountain hare or a soaring golden eagle surveying the landscape below. After a walk near the riverside town of Pitlochry, you will enjoy a delicious afternoon tea at the 5-Star Fonab Castle with views over the tranquil Loch Faskally. (B, L)

      Walk details: 9km/5.5 miles | 110m/ 361ft ascent | approx. 2.5 hours

      Trips In October Only

Tonight you will spend a very special evening visiting the Enchanted Forest. This magical light show with captivating music is a must see and is truly an enchanted experience.  Take your time wandering along the route immersing yourself in the magic, perhaps visiting the storyteller or toasting marshmallows on the open fire pits before taking in the breathtaking finale extravaganza.

Day 4 – Cycling and Cooking Class

One of the best ways to travel around the beautiful countryside in this part of Scotland is by bike. Collecting your bikes from the local town of Aberfeldy you’ll ride on a gentle riverside trail, admiring the views and surrounding yourself in the tranquil natural landscape. Your destination this afternoon is a traditional farmhouse with sweeping views across the valley.  Here you will finish the day taking part in a unique cookery class, learning the tricks of the trade from award winning chefs and preparing fresh local produce. This evening your guide will take you back to your cozy hotel for your final evening here. (B, L)

Day 5 – Return to Edinburgh

It is time to leave the hills of the Highlands behind you and head back to Edinburgh.  Depending on your schedules you may have time for a short hike this morning or perhaps a visit to Bannockburn, where Robert the Bruce won his greatest victory.  This afternoon your guide will drop you off at your hotel or Edinburgh Airport in time to catch your onward travel.
