Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive in Edinburgh

After arriving at Edinburgh airport,  it is only a short 30 minute transfer to city centre.

Your accommodation for the next 2 nights will be a quintessential 5 star Edinburgh hotel. The 28 metre (190 feet) clock tower of this luxury hotel stands as a prominent landmark in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre, the clock itself running 3 minutes early so the residents don’t miss their train at the neighbouring Waverley Station.

You have the afternoon to choose from a variety of activities. You may want to relax and unwind in the hotel’s spa, take a stroll in the nearby Prince’s Street Gardens, visit the former private yacht of Queen Elizabeth 11, the Royal Yacht Britannia or enjoy a short hike to the top of Arthur’s Seat – a craggy hill with spectacular panoramic views over Edinburgh’s skyline.

Day 2 – Edinburgh Old and New

Edinburgh is a city of 2 faces – the Old Town to the south and the New Town to the north.

The Old Town is a maze of cobbled streets, alleyways and secluded courtyards with a hidden subterranean network of vaults that once housed the city’s poorest residents. The jewel in the Old Town’s crown is the vibrant thoroughfare of the Royal Mile with the imposing Edinburgh Castle standing proudly on its mount at one end and the grandiose Palace of Holyroodhouse at the other.

In contrast, the New Town was a product of the grand ideals of the Scottish Enlightenment – impressive Georgian residences sit neatly on wide and grid like avenues, giving a glimpse of how the city’s upper class lived in the 18th century.

Today you will have the option to be joined by a local Edinburgh walking guide, who will show you the most interesting sights of the city and bringing the capital’s history to life with their expert knowledge.

Day 3 – Your Lochside Castle

You have the option on how you make your way to the Highlands today. A 3 hours train transfer will bring you to Inverness with the afternoon free to relax in your accommodation or to explore the charismatic city of Inverness.

Alternatively we can arrange for a guide to collect you from Edinburgh and transfer you north with stops on the way to break up the journey. On route there are many beautiful places to stop and stretch the legs. Examples include the wonderfully pretty Perthshire town of Pitlochry with one of the smallest whisky distilleries in Scotland or the Hermitage woodland walk and Georgian folly overlooking the falls of the River Braan.

Your final destination today is your very own highland castle, sitting within a 500 acre estate on the shores of the magical Loch Ness, the waters being home to a well-known mythical creature.

A luxurious lochside castle with its numerous bedrooms, reception rooms and 5 star service will be yours exclusively for the next 4 nights so you can completely relax and enjoy your Highland countryside retreat away from all the stresses and strains of daily life.

Day 4 – Loch Ness by boat

This morning a private chartered RIB boat will collect you from your castle residence’s very own jetty and take you on a tour of famous Loch Ness.  Your captain will share some of the history of the area with you and of course tales of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster.

From the boat will we will get great views of the ruins of Urquhart Castle sitting proudly on the banks of the Loch – the castle dates from the 13th to 16th centuries and has played many roles throughout history including through the wars of independence and the Jacobite Rebellions. It is now one of the most visited castles in Scotland due to its beautiful setting and its intriguing past. If you want, you have the option of going on shore to have a tour of the castle itself before returning to your own highland castle retreat.

Day 5 – Guided Hiking in the Highlands

Today you can experience the wonderful Highland landscape on foot as your guide will take you on a hike into the countryside. Your guide will gauge the interests and ability of your group and choose either a low level or high level trail. There are many wonderful hikes in the area featuring beautiful glens, hidden lochs and forest trails.

You can choose to hike for the full day or perhaps just in the morning. In the afternoon you can pay a visit to the nearby Culloden Battlefield to learn about the Jacobite Rebellion and Scotland’s bloody past or to just relax back at your accommodation.

Day 6 – Canoeing on Loch Ness

Making the most of our lochside location this morning, we will launch canoes out on the loch to experience the quietness of gliding on the open water amongst the stunning scenery. Don’t worry if you have never been in a canoe before, your expert guide will be on hand to show you what to do and help you develop your paddling skills. While we are out on the water we can take another chance to look out for the illusive Loch Ness Monster!

In the afternoon we can enjoy another short hike in a nearby location or perhaps a gentle stroll around the castle’s 500 acre estate soaking in the beauty of this special place.

Day 7 – Depart

After enjoying a final relaxed breakfast in your castle residence it will be time to depart. Transfers to the local train station or airport in Inverness can be arranged to make your onward connections.
