    With over 400 miles of coastline, soaring cliffs, crescents of white sand and colourful fishing villages, the beautiful Cornish peninsula is a land shaped by the sea.

    Above the rolling waves of the Atlantic, hike through areas of outstanding natural beauty, visiting medieval castles, azure blue lagoons and salty sea arches. With your expert guide, learn about the flora and fauna of the region, looking out for seals, dolphins and porpoises. Wind your way through cobbled streets and stop at lovely cafes, local galleries and independent artisan shops. On a trip that showcases the county’s crowning jewels, experience the beauty of the Cornish coast.

    Day 1 – Welcome to Cornwall Read More

    Day 1

    Welcome to Cornwall

    Arrive at St Austell train station this afternoon and meet your Wilderness guide. Enjoy a short drive to the village of Tintagel, set high on the Cornish coastline and imbued with legends of King Arthur. This afternoon, head out for a beautiful circular hike through Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Walk along the headland and into the footfalls of history, crossing the spectacular bridge to explore Tintagel Castle. At this site where past meets present, and fact meets folklore, explore the ruins of this medieval fortress and learn about the region’s rich history. This evening, settle into your welcoming hotel, which will be your base for the next two nights.

    Day 2 – Port Isaac and Padstow Read More

    Port Isaac and Padstow

    This morning, take a stroll through the winding lanes of Port Isaac, a 14th-century fishing village where white-washed cottages look out over the Atlantic ocean. Come mid-morning, pop over to Padstow and enjoy exploring there too, perhaps indulging in a buttery cornish pastry. This afternoon, join your guide to hike a beautiful stretch of the South West Coast Path – one of the UK’s most treasured national trails. Return to Boscastle this evening and relax.

    Day 3 – Coverack to Lizard Point Read More

    Coverack to Lizard Point

    After breakfast, mosey your way south to explore the Lizard Peninsula. Begin your walk in Coverack, a village once famous for smuggling but now peaceful, quiet, and home to a handful of fishing boats. Hike along the coast, passing the arched rock of the Devil’s Frying Pan and the sweeping sandy shores of Kennack Sands. Perhaps roll up your trousers and walk through the surf and with colourful wildflowers speckling the coastline, take in the beautiful views all around. Later this afternoon, arrive at your accommodation and enjoy a delicious dinner after a day spent in the fresh salty air.

    Day 4 – Lizard Peninsula to Poldhu Cove Read More

    Lizard Peninsula to Poldhu Cove

    After a relaxed breakfast, lace up your boots and begin walking in the morning light. Hike along another section of coastline on a trail that winds its way steadily north. Look out for the serpentine stone that crayons the cliffs in red, white and green as you pass sandy beaches, smuggler coves and sea stacks noisy with seabirds. This afternoon, finish your walk at Poldhu Cove and from the headland, take in the views towards Dollar Cove, named after the wreck of a Spanish ship in 1669, in which the shoreline became awash with silver coins.

    Exploring St. Ives

    Today nip up the west coast to the picturesque town of St. Ives. Popular with artists, this seaside village is a delightful jumble of cobbled streets, historic buildings and independent shops. Spend the morning enjoying the town, perhaps visiting the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. An English artist and sculptor, Barbara Hepworth moved to St Ives at the beginning of the Second World War and remained there for the rest of her life. After lunch, join your guide to hike from St. Ives along a wild stretch of coast where wild thyme blooms and the views stretch across an endless ocean. This evening, relax in St. Ives, perhaps taking an after-dinner stroll in the softness of dusk.

    Day 6 – Penberth Cove to Land’s End Read More

    Penberth Cove to Land’s End

    Your penultimate day takes you to Land’s End – the most westerly tip of England. After breakfast, begin your hike in a tiny fishing hamlet, where a cobblestone slipway slides into turquoise water and the locals fish for mackerel, crab and lobster. Walk across the clifftops, stopping to explore Minack Theatre, a stunning open-air stage overlooking the Atlantic. Afterwards, pause for a snack and a paddle on a stunning sandy beach. This rocky, winding coastline is beautiful and invigorating, with plunging cliffs, sea caves, and deep blue pools. After reaching Land’s End, transfer back to St. Ives and take some time to relax before a celebratory dinner.

    Day 7 – St Michael’s Mount and Depart Read More

    St Michael’s Mount and Depart

    This morning head out to visit St Michael’s Mount, a tidal island home to an ancient castle, chapel and local community. Immerse yourself in stories of deception and disguise while you explore. Return to the mainland, and pop to Rinsey Head where you’ll have lunch and time for a short stunning walk along the coastal path. Look out for the Wheal Prosper engine house, which strikes a remarkable silhouette against a big blue sky. Afterwards, head to St Austell, where your guide will transfer you to the train station to begin your journey home.

    Accommodation Read More

    This trip features some of the best small hotels and food along the route we travel, all hand-picked by us. Accommodation is in a choice of double or twin rooms with ensuite facilities.

    Single Rooms

    There is no supplement charged to solo travellers, however, you will be required to share a room with another person of the same sex. If you request a double room for single occupancy, a supplement of £585 is charged.

    Due to the nature of the accommodations we use, single supplements are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis.

    All meals are included in this trip from lunch on day 1 to lunch on day 7. Included dinners are two courses as standard.

    Great food is of paramount importance on all Wilderness England trips, and we will enjoy excellent regional cooking throughout this all-inclusive trip.

    On this trip, we generally eat dinner as a group however, if you would like to make alternative arrangements, you are free to do so. Your guide will have an evening off during this trip where they do not eat with the group.

    Travel - Arrival and Departure Read More

    You will be met by your Wilderness England Guide at St Austell Railway Station at 12:15pm on Day 1 of your trip.

    The trip will end at St Austell Railway Station at 3:30pm on the final day.

    St Austell can be reached by train from central London and we have designed this trip to coincide with trains arriving from and leaving to London so that you can make the journey on the same day. There is also the Night Riviera Sleeper service which calls at St Austell if you’d like to travel on the train overnight.

    If you wish to stay in St Austell pre or post trip, it is good base to stay to explore the nearby Eden Project or The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

    Good experience with our guide making necessary routing changes because of weather conditions. He always had an evening briefing with group to present options and to develop group consensus. He did not blindly forge ahead but used his expertise to present viable choices and always let the group control our own trip experiences.
