First up, was the announcement in May of a new daily non-stop flight service from Halifax, Canada to Glasgow run by WestJet between May and Oct of 2015. Great news for our Canadian friends as this will mean passengers will also be able to access connections to Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and 16 other cities in WestJet’s Canadian network. Next up and benefiting our American partners, was news that United Airlines will launch the first scheduled non-stop summer service between Chicago O’Hare and Edinburgh from May 2014 and US Airways will run a new non-stop seasonal flight between Edinburgh and Philadelphia.
Other newly launched routes include a new Qatar Airways route from Doha in the Middle East to Edinburgh which will open up Scotland even further to key long haul and emerging markets, including expanding links to Scotland from Qatar Airways’ 136 destinations around the world.
For our partners in Europe, Edelweiss Air will began flying from Zurich to Edinburgh for the first time and Jet 2 started a new weekly route between Verona and Edinburgh.
