Photos of Scotland – our Best Instagrams of 2016

Photos of Scotland are one way we can celebrate and get inspired about our wee country.

A beautiful photo can transport you to somewhere else. It can make you feel connected to a place, a feeling and an idea. We love sharing our photos of Scotland and its wild places as we hope they make you feel a little like we do. Inspired by and proud of the beautiful place we call home.

Although Instagram seems such a fleeting way to communicate, it’s a marvellous world to dive into and connect with people’s adventures and favourite places. This year we’ve been lucky to get over 70,000 Likes on our Instagram images! So we thought we’d share our Top 5 most liked photos of Scotland in 2016.

    Luskentyre Beach, Outer Hebrides

Perhaps one of the most unspoilt and idyllic stretches of beach in the world. Luskentyre beach on Harris in the Outer Hebrides is one of our favourite places to visit. It may not always feel like the Caribbean there but we feel the sheer untouched beauty more than makes up for that.

    Loch Morlich, Cairngorms National Park

A photo posted by Wilderness Scotland (@wilderness_scotland) on

We’re lucky enough to have Loch Morlich on our doorstep here in the Wilderness office within the Cairngorms. It’s a real treat to see the way it transforms throughout the seasons, which makes it an great place for photography at any time of year.

    Sandwood Bay, North West Highlands

A photo posted by Wilderness Scotland (@wilderness_scotland) on

Another of our favourite Scottish beaches. Sandwood Bay in the North West Highlands is a little harder to reach but so worth the effort. The beach stretches away to towering cliffs and sea stacks of rock, buffeted by the sea. This shot was taken on a very special trip when we helped one of our guests realise a lifelong dream to visit the bay. Watch the film of that day here.

    The Knoydart Peninsula

A photo posted by Wilderness Scotland (@wilderness_scotland) on

The very first Wilderness Scotland trip made its way to this remote peninsula on Scotland’s west coast. Thankfully all of our first guests made it home in one piece, giving our founders the encouragement to keep at it. We’ve been taking walkers, sailors and kayakers there ever since.

    Loch Morlich, Cairngorms

Another shot of the beautiful Loch Morlich. On a calm day the reflected Cairngorm mountains make a cracking double whammy view.
