    Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Setting Sail from Ullapool

Set sail from Ullapool Harbour and head north up the coast. We are greeted first by the Summer Isles, which is a beautiful archipelago lying in the mouth of Loch Broom. Spend an afternoon onshore a few of these uninhabited islands exploring the fascinating flora, wildlife and distinctive geographical features such as Cathedral Cave.

Enjoy an evening dram or two to celebrate your first day at sea before settling in to your cosy cabin for the night. (B, L, D)

    Day 2 – Lochinver & Surroundings

Meet your Wilderness Scotland guide for a day of exploration around the coastal village of Lochinver and the surrounding landscape. There is so much to discover, including the white sandy shores of Achmelvich Bay and the magical Falls of Kirkcaig. Stac Pollaidh, which is often regarded as Scotland’s best ‘little mountain’ is also located nearby – making for a fantastic optional hike. From the summit, you are rewarded with spectacular views of the north-western coastline and surrounding glaciated landscape.

Day 3 – Handa Island Wildlife Reserve

There is an opportunity today to explore Handa Island Wildlife Reserve, which is home to over 100,000 seabirds each year. The dramatic sea cliffs also provide the most stunning ocean panoramic. Continuing to head north takes us to Sandwood Bay, our stop for the night, and one of the most beautiful and remote beaches in Scotland. Here we will make ourselves cosy and enjoy a seafood banquet resulting in a truly special evening.

    Day 4 – Spectacular Beaches

As we continue exploring the beautiful coastline we are able to catch a glimpse of some of the most pristine beaches, tucked away between the imposing headlands. Marvel at the stunning crystal clear turquoise waters that surround our beautiful Scottish beaches in this part of the North West Highlands – especially on a warm and sunny day! Most notable of these beaches in this area is the stunning Oldshoremore beach. Arriving in Loch Laxford we will settle for the night, with the spectacular silhouette of Ben Stack dominating the landscape in the distance.

    Day 5 – Loch a Chairn Bhain

Today we head for the secluded Loch a Chairn Bhain. After passing under the distinctive Kylesku bridge, your Wilderness Scotland guide will meet you here for a hike up Quinag, locally known as “Cuinneag,” which translates to “Milk Pail” reflecting it’s unique shape. Returning to the yacht we settle in for a  well deserved evening of friendly hospitality and good company.

Day 6 – Sea Kayaking in the Summer Isles

Sailing back towards the Summer Isles, where we can spend a half-day sea kayaking, intimately exploring the islands and the diversity of wildlife that inhabit them. Typically, you can expect to see the likes of grey seals and porpoises and a multitude of seabirds and if you’re lucky maybe even a minke whale.

Day 7 – Sail Back to Ullapool

On the final morning, we end our voyage by sailing back to Ullapool with a morning stop on Isle Martin, where you can set foot on this incredible community-owned and run island. Isle Martin is an uninhabited island in Loch Broom. It is the closest of the Summer Isles to Ullapool and has historically been the site of a monastery, a herring curing station and a flour mill. Enjoy a short walk and stop for lunch before departing.
