    How Tailor Made Works

What to Expect When Booking Your Holiday

Custom designed holidays are just that – a trip that we design, just for you. We’ll listen to your ideas for a holiday, or your inspiration for choosing Scotland, and work with you to create an itinerary for you to consider.

We’ve laid out below what you should expect if you choose Wilderness Scotland to create your tailor made holiday in Scotland. We’re covering the following:

    • Where to look for inspiration for your tailor made holiday
    • The questions you can ask yourself before chatting to your dedicated travel designer
    • The likely timescales from initial enquiry, to a customised proposal, to booking and then enjoying a tailor made holiday in Scotland
    • Agreeing on your customised itinerary and the subsequent pricing

In terms of timings; sometimes, we hit the mark first time and then we can move quickly to pricing and confirming your trip. In that case, you could expect to go from initial enquiry to confirming the trip in a week or two. If you want to tweak the itinerary, then the process takes a bit longer.

As with any holiday, we recommend starting the planning process early, as it allows us to secure the best hotels and guides for your trip.

    When Should I Book?

Given that we create each trip from scratch, the earlier the better. Many of our custom trips are created and booked more than 6 months in advance.

Generally, it is very challenging to create and deliver a custom trip with less than 8 weeks notice, especially during the busy summer period. The later you leave it, the more challenging the process becomes and you may need to compromise on your preferred hotel or activities if they are unavailable on your travel dates. It’s never too early to start planning!

    Getting Started

Call us for some inspiration or or use the fantastic Interactive Holiday Builder on our website to let us know about your dream adventure holiday in Scotland.  The earlier you can let us know you are a planning a tailor made trip the better, this means we are more likely to secure the best hotels on your preferred travel dates. Booking early also means that we are more likely to have one of our senior guides lead your trip.

    It’s all in the detail

The more details you can give us at the start, the better-equipped we are to design your perfect trip. When getting in touch, first of all consider locations you would like to visit, activities you would like to include, standard of accommodation that you would like to stay in and what your budget is.  Also let us know if you have any must do’s or must sees!

    Initial overview

Your dedicated trip designer will provide you with an initial overview of what we think your holiday could look like so we can make sure that we are heading along the right lines.

Once we have agreed on an itinerary, we will price the trip for you and provide a more detailed proposal, if required. Each custom trip is priced completely from scratch as each one is different so this can take a couple of days – bear with us!

    Confirming your booking

With the itinerary, number of travellers and trip price agreed we will take a 25% deposit to confirm your booking.  Once we have received your payment we will go ahead and secure your accommodations and source the best guide to lead your holiday. If, having seen the pricing, you want to make a change before confirming the trip, we may ask for an initial deposit of £500. The balance of the deposit would then be taken when the final itinerary and price is agreed.

    Final information

No later than 4 weeks before you are due to travel, we will send you a final information document with all the information you require. We’ll then follow up with a phone call 2 weeks before you travel to answer any last minute questions. Your dedicated trip designer will, of course, be on hand to help with any queries you may have at any point.

    The trip

When you arrive to start your holiday everything will be taken care of, leaving you to relax and enjoy your truly unique Wilderness Scotland adventure!

    Our holidays reviewed
    in your own words

This is an amazing trip which reaches places that are not easy to get to by other means. The terrain we crossed, and the trails we used were varied, but always interesting. A great mixture of all the different off-road cycling experiences which the Scottish Highlands have to offer.
