      Trip Overview

      Created by: Rachael Gavan

Mist rolling in across a deep, lonely loch. Silver birch whispering amongst heavy needled spruce. The high walls of a Scottish castle rising out of the dark. Step back into history in style by staying in bewitching and exclusive-use castles, surrounded by the wild Scottish landscape – a sure way of becoming immersed in an era long since passed.

By day, choose to test yourself with traditional highland games or learn the art of greenwood carving. Head out on a private boat trip to explore the distant shores of the stunning Loch Ness. When dusk approaches, relax by a roaring fire, with a dram of the finest local whisky. As owls spread their silent wings, sleep soundly within the old stone walls that once acted as a refuge for royalty.

The below is an example itinerary but activities can be changed, added and upgraded. All aspects of the trip will be tailored to you.

      Day 1

      Welcome to Scotland

Land in Scotland and transfer to your exclusive-use castle. This 15th-century, lovingly refurbished fortress, will be your home for the next three days. Depending on your arrival time, there will be activity options for your first afternoon. Choose to visit the ornate Rosslyn Chapel or head into the bustling streets of Edinburgh for a luxury shopping experience. After settling in and perhaps an aperitif, enjoy a gala dinner in the Great Hall.

      Day 2

      Take to the Water

On a privately chartered yacht, explore the Firth of Forth. Take to the helm alongside the skipper or simply sit back and relax as the coastline unfurls beyond the bow. Keep an eye out for curious seals, dolphins and an eclectic mix of seabirds as you sail under the famous Forth Bridges or around the volcanic Bass Rock. Back on dry land, wind your way through some of the small harbour towns and their quirky shops and galleries before returning to your luxury castle.

      Day 3

      Outdoor Pursuits

After breakfast, spend the morning exploring this beautiful part of Scotland. With your guide choose to head out on foot to explore the ruins of a 13th-century castle or take to trails and explore the forest and moors by bike. After lunch, try your hand at clay pigeon shooting, archery or witness the beautiful spectacle of a falconry display. After another delicious dinner, you’ll be joined by a local storyteller who will spin tales of the myths, legends and historic truths of this ancient land.

Day 4 – Loch Ness Read Less

      Day 4

      Loch Ness

This morning, enjoy the incredibly scenic 4-hour drive to your next luxury destination. Spend the journey discovering hidden gems along the road or instead choose to transfer via helicopter for a quicker journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may wish to head out and explore the mysterious, murky depths of Loch Ness, the deepest loch in Britain. Drift along in your private boat, keeping an eye out for the famous monster in the inky depths. After, wander the 500-acre castle’s estate, exploring the gardens, woodlands and leafy marina. Spend time with a piper and try your hand at playing the chanter. As night approaches, gather for canapes and cocktails, before a delicious dinner.

Day 5 – Woodcarving and Wilderness Read Less

      Day 5

      Woodcarving and Wilderness

The art of greenwood carving is at risk of falling forgotten into the annals of history. From a local woodsman, learn the history of this unique craft and discover the pleasure that comes from whittling a quaich – a Scottish friendship cup – by traditional methods. After lunch, perhaps a BBQ on the sunlit lawns, experience a tradition that has been part of Scotland’s history for hundreds of years: the Highland Games. On the grounds of the castle listen to the skirl of the bagpipes while athletes compete in events such as the renowned cable toss, hammer throw and tug o’war. Under the eyes of an expert, try your hand at these feats of strength and courage. This evening, in the grand but cosy dining room, enjoy dinner as another day comes to its close.

For your final day in the Scottish Highlands, a local celebrity chef will join you for a cookery workshop. Using local and freshly foraged ingredients you’ll create a meal inspired by and paired with the diverse whiskies of the area. After lunch, you may want to relax by doing some yoga, or those who are feeling adventurous may take to the waters of Loch Ness for some wild swimming or canoeing, each led by a qualified guide. The evening will involve a gala dinner, in traditional Highland dress, accompanied by live folk music. Ceilidh dancing and fizzing fireworks will bring your Scottish escape to its perfect ending.

A bucket list trip with amazing scenery, along with a decent amount of challenging but doable cycling. We had a fantastic time.
