    Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 - Into Highland Perthshire

As you journey into Perthshire today you’ll be greeted by tall trees and taller mountains. On the way to your accommodation, you may want to visit Scone Palace, the ancient seat of the Scottish Parliament and the crowning place of kings including Robert the Bruce. Spend time wandering around the Palace and Gardens (don’t get lost in the maze!), before continuing north for a short walk at the Hermitage. Marvel at the impressive canopy of Douglas firs – some of the tallest in Britain – as you make your way to a waterfall where it is possible to spot leaping salmon. Arrive at your accommodation in time to settle in before dinner.

Day 2 -  Guided Hiking - The Fairy Hill

Meet your expert hiking guide this morning to chat about options for the day. There are countless hikes in the area and we’ll choose the best one for your trip based on your experience and preference. One option is local favourite, Schiehallion – The Fairy Hill. Standing tall over the tranquil waters of Loch Rannoch this is a great hill for those who would love to “bag a munro” (climb a mountain over 3,000ft/914.4m) but don’t have that much experience hill walking. There are also plenty of low level walks that also offer incredible views. (B)

Day 3 - Guided biking - Choose Road Cycling or Trail Riding

Whether you choose to ride the quiet meandering back roads or prefer to head into the forest to explore the woodland trails, admiring the scenery from the seat of a bicycle is quite simply one of the best ways to experience the majesty of Perthshire. Your guide will ensure you’ll make the most of this adventure as the route will be specifically tailored to your interests and ability. Keep an eye out for local wildlife and experience the landscape which has served as the inspiration for countless artists and writers, including Sir Walter Scott. (B)

Day 4 - Scottish Crannog Center and Self Guided Explorations

On your final day, you’ll have the option to visit the Scottish Crannog Centre, a living history museum. Immerse yourself in ancient village life where you can try your hand at traditional crafts. This afternoon there is free time to explore – perhaps you’ll like to take a walk through majestic Glen Lyon to seek out the Fortingall Yew which is around 5000 years old and one of the oldest living things in Europe. This afternoon depart for home or extend your trip by adding one or more of the additional activities on offer. You may also want to link this trip with one of our other Self-Drive Collection itineraries for a longer adventure. (B)

    Optional Extra - Landrover Safari

Head into the hills on a private Land Rover safari with a local ranger. We’re in search of wildlife, but the magnificent views make this trip wonderfully special right from the start. Look out for stags with their impressive antlers, grouse, ptarmigan, wild mountain hare and eagles soaring through wide-open skies.

Optional Extra - Guided Paddling Expedition

Experience the magic of Perthshire from the water. Under the instruction of a paddling guide, explore the lochs of Perthshire by canoe or paddleboard. Afterwards, treat yourself to an afternoon tea at a 5* castle – with additional options for spa treatments. Or, you might prefer a bit of time to wander around Pitlochry, renowned as a top tourist attraction during Victorian times, and still is!

Optional Extra - Private Cooking Class

Located on a working farm and using produce direct from the fields and gardens you’ll work with the chef to create delicious meals in a true farm to fork experience.

Optional Extra - Fly Fishing with a Ghillie

The rivers around Perthshire are some of the best for fly fishing. Head out with a local ghillie who will take you to the best local spots from which to cast. All equipment is included.

Optional Extra - The Enchanted Forset - October Only

An award-winning light and music show set in beautiful native woodland the world-renowned Enchanted Forest is an incredible experience. Available in October only tickets for the Enchanted Forest can be added on to any day on the trip depending on availability.
