This trip had top drawer paddling in northern Shetland, maximising the opportunities to explore the coastline, islands; and geography up close, great camaraderie across the group making memories that will again last a lifetime!

The only problem for my wife and I is that Wilderness Scotland has set such a high bar for any future bike tours. It really exceeded all our expectations. The bikes were great, the routes were fun yet challenging, the landscape amazing and the people friendly. But ultimately our soigneur Rachael really made this trip next level. Please continue to invest in such awesome people.

We saw so much on our trip starting in Edinburgh, traveling up through the Highlands, then to the Hebrides Islands including a once in a lifetime trip to St. Kilda. Every turn in the road brought us a new experience.

The Great Glen Way is an amazing walk. The beauty of Scotland was incredible and the people were so friendly and helpful. We loved all the bed and breakfast that Wilderness Scotland arranged for us. Each one was unique and had different qualities that made the trip more enjoyable. We loved staying at the Inverlochy Castle Hotel and it was definitely worth the extra cost. Inverness was a highlight. It is a beautiful city and a wonderful place to end the walk.

Accommodation & Food

Loved the accommodations. I cannot say that I have a favorite as each one had its own positives.

Your Guide

We did a self guided trip and the notes were very helpful. They were easy to follow and kept us on the right path. A couple of suggestions: In the notes for Gairlochy/Spean Bridge - we walked the 4 miles in to town. The notes said could call the bed and breakfast for a ride. I think instead of could should would be the better word. It was a long walk on a rather thrilling road. Another suggestion would be to have directions back to Kilmore Farm when hiking back to Drumnadrochit from Blackfold. We missed the Kilmore Farm road. However, people were very helpful and we found our way back. Once you found the way, it was very easy and direct. The guidebook and the directions worked very well for us, and the two suggestions are just tweaks to the notes.

The Bottom Line

This was an incredible experience and Wilderness Scotland made it possible. I would certainly book with them again if I plan another hiking trip to Scotland.

This trip was an excellent holiday with a small group covering many aspects of Orkney Our guide had an extensive knowledge of the flora birdlife and history/archeology of the island Couldn't have asked for any better!
