    Mini Bio

I am an enthusiastic climber/ mountaineer and cyclist. The Cairngorms have been my home for the last 8 years. Before this, I was in North Wales and the South West of England, and visiting Scotland every Winter for 3 or 4 months. Working part-time and having a portfolio career gives me time for adventures around the Cairngorms and around Scotland.

    Favourite Place to Play

Torridon. The combination of the sea and mountains in a stunning setting. Great for adventures year-round be it hiking, scrambling, climbing or biking.

Not a lot of People Know This

When sailing a Laser dinghy a long time ago I once beat a soon to be multiple Olympian in an informal race, I think I got lucky with the changeable wind.

What Fellow Travellers Say About Andy

Andy’s choice of day hikes showed off the varying terrain of the Orkneys. We never saw many people and were able to gain a better understanding about Orkney’s varied terrain and the resources that has allowed all the different people who settled on Orkney to live their lives. He, at the last minute, replaced a guide previously scheduled for this trip, but you wouldn’t know that. He was prepared, timely, and interesting, showing a side of Orkney that would have been hard for us to gain without his knowledge.

I thought Andy was wonderful! It would have been nice to have a bit more information about what we were going to do and see the next day. I would have just liked to have more informations especially about the archeologic sites and museums beforehand.

As mentioned before, Andy was stellar. His knowledge of the geography of the area was very good, and he seemed genuinely interested in the history of the area.

His demeanour was always pleasant (even when he must have been fatigued with long days), he encouraged us by setting a good pace, without putting pressure on any of us in the group.

If I could ask for one thing, it would be for the guide to have a thorough knowledge of the history and "goings on" of each area. This might be unrealistic, in that guides lead trips in many areas and it's impossible to be an expert about every area.

I would recommend Andy as a guide wholeheartedly!

Will Snow was phenomenal, especially considering he had only one day to prepare after the scheduled guide was unable to take the trip. I would take another trip knowing he was the guide.

Will was so engaging. He was so aware of the wants/needs of his guests. He went above all expectations to make sure we had an amazing trip including finding swimming holes to dip into. He was so friendly and the group blended so well together with him as our leader. His knowledge of flora and funa was very good. He also could give us history information. All this made the trip way more engaging than hiking only.
We did not spend enough time with Andy for me to give feedback.

Andy was drafted in at short notice due to the original guide’s illness. He looked after us very well and was extremely patient although we walked at a slower pace than he was used to (I was recovering from a broken ankle).

Andy did an excellent job taking care of us. His job is challenging when the hiking ability of the group varies but he handled it well. Some of us had to push ourselves rather hard, (we expected this would be the case) to keep up but we were blessed with terrific weather and it was all worth it.

Arrin and Andy were excellent guides. They were both very encouraging on some of the steeper climbs on the Wee Mad Road and elsewhere. On the one 25% grade that my husband and I just could not deal with at the end of the Wee Mad Road, Andy called ahead and Arrin gave us a ride up that part of the road.
