The outdoors are a powerful and magical place, I spend the majority of my time sharing these amazing places with all sorts of people, in all sorts of places on lots of different adventures.

    Place to Play

it’s all good….there’s no such thing as bad weather in Scotland, just the wrong jacket.. anywhere where the mountains meet the sea is a special place, everyday, every group, every paddle, and every journey is always different. When not being paid to go out and play I enjoy riding my bike up the biggest hill I can find for free!!

Stephi: fun, knowlegdeable, encouraging, fun company and inspirational. Again, very helpful instructions. She was great.

I cannot recommend Craig and Tim highly enough. They were generous with their experience and skills and seemed to be very happy doing their jobs. They rekindled my enthusiasm for outdoor sports and I really liked the fact that they were enthusiastic about what other providers offered and the fact that there is a whole community of outdoor enthusiasts who support each other. Given that we all arrived with some type of apprehension- bunkhouse/kayaking/being in a group/being on holiday alone/being on holiday in a couple in a group/being too old/being too young - they managed those things really skilfully and gave people the space to do that too. I felt safe in their hands -from being in the kayaks to being in the van going over hills like the Bealach and going to and from Diabaig.

Craig and Tim were brilliant in lots of different ways and could not have been any better. Both were welcoming and friendly and put you at ease, not only in their direct interaction, but also quietly looking out for you from the sidelines too. Very enthusiastic about the kayaking but also the surroundings, the scenery and wildlife, and both were very knowledable too.
Had some great conversations with Tim as I was nearly always towards the back and I knew he would be there to instruct and encourage as well as have a natter about whatever we ended up chatting about if I fell behind the main group a little. Always very cheery company.
Craig was excellent as a teacher, making it interesting and informative, plus good fun as well. He was easy to understand and paced the groups learning with a lot of infectious enthusiasm. He was also very good at making sure everyone was given individual attention and kept an eye out for each person on the trip. I also know that he put a lot of extra and often unseen work into choosing suitable kayaking sites, weather reports, tides etc etc and looking after all of the driving and equipment.
Both Craig and Tim added more than kayaking instruction alone, offering additional knowledge and stories about the area, and were central to the success of the trip by being very accomodating and great company too. I am very grateful to both of them, loved every minute, and would not hesitate doing another trip with them.

Tim was the best support and provided great tid bits on scottish culture, lore and history. He was always at the back, providing a “safety net” and encouraging everyone along the way. Both guides were excellent - they knew the areas very well, pointed out potential dangers and areas to be careful which was ideal for novice riders like us. They showed us other helpful info on bike maintenance and the like. The routes we took were exceptional - though the final hill climb wasn't really suitable for actual riding. They did explain after this was part of mountain biking - I didn't realise this.
The end views and rides downhill more than compensated this.
I liked them showing some of the foraging as well - really made the experience feel more real. It was difficult to keep the group together all the time as people have different levels of skills / fitness but I thought they handled this very well.

The two guides, Craig and Paul, were beyond excellent. I honestly couldn't fault them. They were extremely knowledgeable, positive and good fun to be around. They organised a fantastic trip, which was varied and within our capability. I can't thank them enough for making the trip so memorable.

Craig and Paul were both excellent in all aspects . I learnt more about the technical side of paddling , safety and self rescue that I though I would have achieved.
I also learnt a good bit about Scottish history , wildlife etc .
All round two excellent hosts...….now if they could only take care of the midgies :0)

Paul and Craig were fantastic. They took the time to find out about the group expectations and the things we wanted to get out of the trip. They worked very well together and provided a great balance between teaching us skills, encouraging us to be independent and make our own decisions, and giving us information about our surroundings. I learned a lot, and felt inspired! They were great ambassadors for Wilderness Scotland.

The guides were great. Both Craig and Mike were kind, considerate, knowledgeable and highly competent. They were just incredibly nice guys who made us feel at ease right from the start. It was a very small trip - just the two of us and a third person from Wilderness Scotland on a 'fam trip' - so the overall feeling was very much like a family, or a bunch of friends out together. The feeling that they were there for backup was very comforting, even if it wasn't needed.

Craig was an excellent guide who naturally inspired confidence from the start. Obviously being a guide is not just about showing people the ropes. It requires multiple skills - they're responsible for the participants' safety, comfort, enjoyment of the entire holiday (on and off the water) and for delivering professional instruction. Underlying all this is the need to have excellent people skills. In fact I think being a good guide is much more than just a job - it's a vocation.

I'm sure your guides get this a lot but I really can't say enough about Craig. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable, fit, and easy to get along with, but he always went out of his way to get to know and interact with everyone on the trip. Our group was made up of mostly singles but in no time his relaxed and genuine personality had us bonded into a group. I really liked how he always tried to incorporate everyone's level, wants and needs into our daily excursions. As I mentioned in another review, his effortless logistical abilities never ceased to impress me and the fact that he was so personable and kind just made the trip entirely. Thanks, Craig! You rock! :-)

Craig and Howard were amazing. They knew exactly how to organise a group of fledgling kayakers, there was never any fuss and nothing was too much trouble. They spent time assessing the weather conditions each day to find suitable paddling spots for us. There was a good mix of teaching skills and just letting us get on with it.

Craig & Howard were excellent, they worked well together. They gave great confidence on the water & showed that they were always thinking ahead & modifying there plans dependent on weather, how we were progressing, tide, etc.
Off the water they left nothing to be desired, seemed to read our minds & be one step in front of us at all times, yet without being overbearing, they were just getting on with stuff with no fuss or commotion.

Both guides had the perfect mix of professionalism and friendliness and made all in the group feel comfortable, supported and accommodated. The guides worked very well together in the team and worked every second of the day it seemed to make the trip a success.
