The outdoors are a powerful and magical place, I spend the majority of my time sharing these amazing places with all sorts of people, in all sorts of places on lots of different adventures.

    Favourite Place to Play

It’s all good….there’s no such thing as bad weather in Scotland, just the wrong jacket.. anywhere where the mountains meet the sea is a special place, everyday, every group, every paddle, and every journey is always different. When not being paid to go out and play I enjoy riding my bike up the biggest hill I can find for free!!

I also appreciated the care they took in planning each day's route and eagerness to share things they saw (marine life, different types of seaweeds, etc). We luckily only had one day of inclement weather and it ended up being an nice rest day where we did a short hike to a really cool light house and then were able to explore the town. I never worried that I would not have the assistance I would need and set up everything in a way that required me not to have to ask for help with the exception of getting the kayaks up and down on shore. They rekindled my enthusiasm for outdoor sports and I really liked the fact that they were enthusiastic about what other providers offered and the fact that there is a whole community of outdoor enthusiasts who support each other. Given that we all arrived with some type of apprehension- bunkhouse/kayaking/being in a group/being on holiday alone/being on holiday in a couple in a group/being too old/being too young - they managed those things really skilfully and gave people the space to do that too. Craig and Tim were brilliant in lots of different ways and could not have been any better. Both were welcoming and friendly and put you at ease, not only in their direct interaction, but also quietly looking out for you from the sidelines too. Very enthusiastic about the kayaking but also the surroundings, the scenery and wildlife, and both were very knowledable too.
Had some great conversations with Tim as I was nearly always towards the back and I knew he would be there to instruct and encourage as well as have a natter about whatever we ended up chatting about if I fell behind the main group a little. Always very cheery company.
Craig was excellent as a teacher, making it interesting and informative, plus good fun as well. He was easy to understand and paced the groups learning with a lot of infectious enthusiasm. He was also very good at making sure everyone was given individual attention and kept an eye out for each person on the trip. I also know that he put a lot of extra and often unseen work into choosing suitable kayaking sites, weather reports, tides etc etc and looking after all of the driving and equipment.
Both Craig and Tim added more than kayaking instruction alone, offering additional knowledge and stories about the area, and were central to the success of the trip by being very accomodating and great company too. They showed us other helpful info on bike maintenance and the like. The routes we took were exceptional - though the final hill climb wasn't really suitable for actual riding. They did explain after this was part of mountain biking - I didn't realise this.
The end views and rides downhill more than compensated this.

Craig and Kielty were excellent and on top of everyone's needs.
Craig is an amazing leader with insights to the history of Scotland's Outer Hebrides and its environment. To begin our trip he did a group bonding exercise with red string symbolizing the Rowan tree for protection. ( Each member of our group carried their piece of red string throughout the trip!) Craig was always checking in with us to make sure our expectations were being met.
Kielty did a fantastic job getting our van and trailer in the standby line so that we were able to make our ferry back to the mainland. I know that there was a lot of behind the scene planning that day and it was truly appreciated.

Craig was of course a well-seasononed and professional guide, but more importantly, his personal character was a crucial asset to the success of the the trip by contributing to the social binding and general atmosphere between us all. Lucy of course was the natural complement, adding her own charm and kindness to the stew, making the trip not only a memorable biking adventure but a very pleasant sociable experience. Wilderness Scotland took care of the "ingredients", but Craig and Lucy made the magic!

I'll repeat my comments from an earlier panel ... Craig Tweedie and Scott McCabe were absolutely terrific ... they assessed our individual capabilities quickly and made accommodations accordingly ... greatly appreciated. They also modified our itinerary to meet our stated goals. They explained clearly upcoming routes and assisted -- and encouraged -- each of us individually when the hills got rather steep! Craig noticed my front tire going flat and he changed it in record time! Scotland and the bicycling thereof were wonderful, but made all the better by our two outstanding guides!

Craig was an excellent guide who naturally inspired confidence from the start. Obviously being a guide is not just about showing people the ropes. It requires multiple skills - they're responsible for the participants' safety, comfort, enjoyment of the entire holiday (on and off the water) and for delivering professional instruction. Underlying all this is the need to have excellent people skills. In fact I think being a good guide is much more than just a job - it's a vocation.
