    Mini Bio

After studying a BA (Hons) Outdoor Leadership degree in Ambleside, Lake District, I’ve worked all over the more mountainous areas of the UK. I’m happiest being in the hills but I’ve fallen in love with the Scottish Highlands. I was 18 when I first explored the Highlands, hiking all 282 Munro’s in 62 days and in doing so becoming the youngest person to complete them in one continuous attempt. Discovering the diverse mountains, lochs and wildlife on that trip is still the best experience of my life and now I love that it’s my job to show people just how amazing the Highlands are.

Out of work you’ll probably find me running or racing in the hills, rock climbing on remote mountain crags or swimming in a refreshing loch. If I’m lucky, I’ll do it all in one day!

    Adventurer's Stories about Joe

I don't think you could find many guides better than Joe. Joe was very responsible, very attentive to our needs, and extremely knowledgeable about the region both historically and geologically.

Joe Mann was excellent. He related well to all of us, which I think helped each member of our group to be ourselves. My husband and I were impressed with his wealth of knowledge. He was attentive to each one of us. Besides being a wonderful guide, he is truly a kind person.

Joe is an excellent guide, with great knowledge of the area and wildlife. He explained well what we were doing and what to expect and why and how the program changed. He was great at encouraging us all the up the mountains and checking that we were all ok. In a nutshell fab leader.

It was obvious right from the beginning of the trip how much Joe's enthusiasm and passion for the outdoors came across. Very knowkedgeable and the fact that he lives in the area meant that he could take us to some places that only he know about.

Joe Mann is a superb guide: responsible, enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgeable about nature in general and the Cairngorms in particular - which is, literally, his backyard (don't miss the visit to the reindeer centre, where he works as a herder in the winter months). Despite some challenging weather conditions - there was still plenty of snow on the mountains when we arrived - he delivered beautiful, strenuous walks each day. A whisky enthusiast, he even brought along a few of his own bottles to lead a whisky tasting for the group on our final evening. Very highly recommended.

Jo was always entertaining company and very helpful particularly in difficult terrain. Changes to the holiday itinerary were often forced on us by bad weather ,but he ensured that we always made the most of our time in Skye. Great whisky tasting .

Joe was a superb guide: friendly and fun to be around, extremely knowledgeable - I didn't expect to learn so much history along the way - and professional. He did a great job rearranging the schedule as necessary, even leading a whisky tasting for the group, and was excellent at ensuring that everyone on the trip was taken care of on the walks. His playlist of Scottish music was an unexpected treat.
