    Mini Bio

Despite coming from SW London I have always been an explorer and was fascinated by wild life! As a kid, I would ride my bike to any bit of open space like Wimbledon Common, Mitcham Common or Bushy Park to explore and search for frogs, newts or small mammals and watch the deer in the Royal Parks. Nothing has changed except that I have gone a little further afield.

    Favourite Place to Play

Knoydart. Three great hills, lack of roads, The Old Forge, fresh mussels from the beaches to cook at your camp and when you walk in from Kinloch Hourn, there is a view down Loch Hourn from Creag Raonabhal which is one of the best vistas in the world.

What Fellow Travellers Say About Steve

Steve is great!! Even when a particular trail was new to him, we never got 'lost'. He was able to gauge what we were capable of on the more difficult climbs and adjust accordingly. And it's always fun to take a walk in the countryside with someone knowledgeable of the flora, fauna, history, geography, etc.

Stephen did a great job providing interesting information and his love of what he does shines through. He was fun to hike with and helped us learn about the area (both animals and plants and people). In addition, he also took into account our particular interest in birds and helped us identify and find them throughout the trip.

Both Steve and Tom were wonderful and we all really enjoyed the time we spent with both of them. Obviously we spent a lot more time with Steve and got to know him better, but I would highly recommend both of them to anyone who was looking for a guide in Wales.

Tom and Steve were both great. Obviously we spent most of the trip with Steve. We just do not have enough good things to say about him - so competent and experienced, quickly figured out our ability level and interests, great stories, incredible driver, very knowledgeable about flora and fauna. A delightful man. Tom was also lovely and we enjoyed the short time we had with him - equally qualified and knowledgeable.

I thought Steve went above and beyond in terms of teaching us how to navigate new terrain.

Steve Gray simply is the best! Completely competent, friendly, witty, reassuring, and accommodating. He always wore a pleasant smile. He really extended himself to ensure a good time was had by all. I always felt in good hands under his wilderness leadership. I'd love to do another WS trip with him sometime. His bio is not listed on your WS website, which should be fixed.

Our guide, Steve Gray, was first rate. He was a true professional...completely competent in every aspect ( safety, driving, map-reading etc.) and a great pleasure to be with.
