    Mini Bio

Tom is a lifelong wilderness enthusiast, best known for his YouTube channel, “Fandabi Dozi,” and his video series on 17th-century Highlander survival skills. In this series, he looks to rediscover the skills, equipment, knowledge, stories and the relationship between land and nature that people had in the Highlands of Scotland, 300-400 years ago.

Tom is also a freelance bushcraft instructor and mountain leader with a background in Ecology.

Tom’s main mission with his work is to help reconnect with our natural and cultural heritage through the practice of wilderness living skills, thereby building resilience in ourselves, our communities, and ecosystems.

    Favourite Place to Play

I love hiking into remote areas to make my home for a few days, fishing and foraging off the land. Mainly around the Inverness and Torridon areas. It’s hard to pick a favourite place; I love all the central and western Highlands of Scotland!

Not a lot of People Know This

I played guitar in a heavy metal band while at university and had a secret longing to be a rockstar. Turns out that touring gigs and being a hermit forest creature don’t go hand in hand, so I chose the woods.

I mainly play acoustic guitar these days as it’s hard to find a plug for my electric in the wild, but my music still has a particular metal flavour that I can’t get away from.

    – Lots of knowledge about Highland history around the 17th century era.
