Meet your Wilderness guide in Inverness this morning and enjoy a scenic drive west to Uig on the Isle of Skye. Along the way, stop for a lovely cafe lunch before we catch the mid-afternoon ferry to Lochmaddy on North Uist, looking for seabirds and dorsal fins as the boat chugs through the waves. A short drive north will take us to a small, friendly hotel which will be our home for the next two nights. Take time to settle in before enjoying a delicious dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Accompanied by your guide, ribbon through machair – a Gaelic word meaning ‘fertile low lying grassy plain’ characterised by a medley of wildflowers in the spring and summer. Enjoy sweeping views of white sandy beaches and turquoise water before heading inland across Benbecula, onto North Uist, arriving with a crunch of gravel back at the hotel.

Ascend through the hills, enjoying the wild scenery as we traverse beneath the striking mountain of An Clisham. Continue to the Isle of Lewis and cross the windswept moor. Our destination for today is the mysterious Standing Stones of Callanish, which predate Stonehenge and are thought to have been erected 5,000 years ago. After exploring, settle into your lovely family-owned guest house this evening and savour a hearty dinner.

Distances each day will be between 35 – 45 miles, cycling at around 12/13mph. Each day will be rolling and hilly terrain and there will be notable climbs most days. Some of these will be more testing and some riders may opt to push or ride in the support vehicle. Some climbs are also followed by exciting descents. We will be in the saddle for 5 – 7 hours each day plus the odd longer day. There is also time each day for breaks and lunches, plus some visits to sites of interest
