Pre-Trip Service
Also, Wilderness Scotland provided several items that weren't on their part of the list: self-inflating pillows, kagoules (i.e. high-tech kayaking smocks), midge hoods and Smidge (all a plus point, but we could have left some stuff at home or not bought it in the first place if we'd known from the time of booking). Someone at HQ lead us to believe we'd have a trowel each... but that's another story :-)
Trip Comments
Canoeing the Great Glen Way was a brilliant experience. Our group ranged in age from 30s to 80s. We gelled round the campfire on Day 1 and never looked back.
Accommodation & Food
What can one say about a simple tent? It was easy to erect/strike and held off the wind and the rain when required. The views from the text door were excellent. The guesthouse for our final night was clean and comfortable with a delicious breakfast.
Your Guide
Our guides Vic and Scott were as described: curious, calm, creative and easy-going, mischievous, patient (respectively). They managed to keep us on schedule without any aspect feeling like a rush. The food they produced and cooked was excellent and their decision making was spot on. They took me out of my comfort zone and brought me back again.
The Bottom Line
The trip was brilliant fun... and the sense of achievement is immense: I have canoed the Great Glen Way :-) Wilderness Scotland made it easy for me to take part in a great adventure. I won't call it 'the adventure of a lifetime' because I'm planning to come back and add more of their adventures to my life.
