I’ve been adventuring and instructing in the outdoors for all of my adult life and am now enjoying working as a freelance instructor and guide. Most of my time has been spent on the West Coast of Scotland but I also enjoy travelling to new places. As a result I’ve been lucky enough to walk and guide all over.

I started my outdoors adventures with the Scouts, eventually becoming a Scout Leader. I also volunteered at the Scout’s Adventure Centre at Lochgoilhead and was responsible for kayaking activities and staff training. With my wife I volunteered with Ocean Youth Club taking young people to sea on a 72 foot Ketch for personal development. I volunteered with my local Duke of Edinburgh’s group and held the
post of Expedition Supervisor. Following retirement from Local Government I have undertaken paid freelance work in the outdoor industry. I have combined assessing Duke of Edinburgh expeditions with taking charity fundraisers up Ben Nevis, working for Torridon Outdoors and providing safety cover for MTB races and swim events.
