Set amidst a sprawling estate with beautiful woodlands, secret follies and flamboyant formal gardens, it’s easy to lose track of time here, surrounded by so many stories. This afternoon, there’s the opportunity to explore more of the Ayrshire countryside, perhaps visiting the cobblestone bridge, Brig o’Doon, which is famous as the setting for the final verse of Robert Burns’s poem Tam o’ Shanter.

Watch a 200-year-old loom in action and even try your hand at weaving. Afterwards, transfer to Helensburgh, an elegant town on the Firth of Clyde. Enjoy a leisurely lunch before exploring The Hill House – an iconic home designed in 1902 by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife. With meticulous attention to form and interior detail, it’s a delight to move from room to room, noting how each element reflects the distinctive aesthetic. This evening, a short drive will take you to the second accommodation of your trip with time to relax before dinner.

Part of the Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve, Inchcailloch is rich in natural and cultural heritage, home to an ancient church, old trees and stunning views. Afterwards, head out to explore the Scottish Crannog Centre, an engaging museum which brings Iron Age life to the surface of Loch Tay.
