    Mini Bio

To pursue a passion for adventure and the outdoors, I decided to move to Scotland from an office-based career south of the border and have never looked back. I’ve always loved the outdoors and travel, spending every waking hour growing up exploring my local area in South East England, this then expanded to hillwalking in the Lake District and Snowdonia and subsequently mountaineering and rock climbing in Scotland and around the world.

I am highly motivated to share my enthusiasm and knowledge and hope to inspire, educate and learn from the groups that I meet along the way.

    Favourite Place to Play

Being based in Aberdeenshire, I have a soft spot for the Cairngorms, especially the solitude found high on the Cairngorm plateau. Failing this I am most likely to be found in or around Torridon or Assynt (weather permitting!!).

Not a lot of People Know This

My dream is to spend time working in Antarctica.

I’d say that I’m a jack of all trades although, being an ex Geography student and climber, I do have an interest in geology. Have no fear though, I have learned to find out whether clients share my interest before talking them through how a 4000 million year old piece of rock has formed!

I’m still working on amassing mountaineering adventures – maybe one day I’ll write a book chronicling these!

What Fellow Travellers Say About Edd

Dan did a fantastic job! He did a great job of taking the pulse of the group and allowing us to help make choices in destination decisions. He wasn't feeling his best during the trip, but he never let it stop him and he had more energy than a 3 year old!

Edd was great. Despite never having been to Orkney, he had obviously done his research as he was very knowledgeable about the history/geography/wildlife of the island. He was flexible and soon picked up on what we wanted to get out of the trip and tweaked the itinerary accordingly. Nothing was too much trouble and everything worked out seamlessly which I know takes a lot of effort behind the scenes. He had a lovely manner with our daughter Scarlett and engaged her in whatever we happened to be doing. I must admit to being a little nervous beforehand about spending a week with a guide we'd never met but he was great company and we enjoyed spending time with him.

Edd was a very conscientious guide and took great care to ensure folks were happy. Particularly appreciated his care in swapping days to get the best of the weather

Our guide, Edd Hamilton, was excellent! We gather that it’s his first year with you, which you wouldn’t have known! He was very helpful, always willing to answer any queries ( not many), but also must have learnt up on the relevant historical facts for all the places we went to and never referred to notes and made that interesting too! His driving was very considerate and some roads were bumpy, but we all felt comfy and safe. He was very relaxed with us and always on time. We all very much enjoyed being led by him!

Edd was excellent in every respect. He looked after us all very well and chose excellent routes, taking account of the weather. He was also a very good and safe driver of the minibus.

Given it was our guides first trip for Wilderness and he had not visited this part of the country / outer isles before, he was very well prepared in his knowledge, including the number of jetties and WCs around Castlebay! Fluency comes with repeat trips. I was 'glad' for my occasional trip to actually give him some real guiding to do!

    TEAM WILDERNESS REPSONSE:

It's great to hear you had a great time with Ed. The senior guide who who has an in-depth knowledge of the area unfortunately had to pull out last minute because of COVID, and therefore it was Ed that stepped up to the bar. I'm so glad you had a good time!

Edd, our guide was great. He explained what we were to be doing and when. He was very knowledgeable and if someone asked a qustion to which he did not know the answer, he found out. He was very good at managing the individual participants of the group, encouraging and helping those that needed it on the walks. All in all an excellent guide.

There was one wee slip up where Edd took us to the wrong meeting place for a boat trip but we got to where we were going eventually and were able to have a laugh about it afterwards. A couple of the group had less confidence in their abilities than others at times but Edd helped and encouraged them without it seeming like a big issue or that it was a problem. I know he wouldn't be allowed to as he was on duty but Edd is the type of person you could happily enjoy a beer/dram or two of an evening with, sharing stories and travel experiences. If he hadn't told us at the beginning of the trip that this was his first trip with yourselves as a guide, I'd have never known it was his first time.
