    Mini Bio

Originally a Yorkshire farming lad from the Dales who went to study geology at the University of Liverpool; I have since worked for a variety of major outdoor retailers and wholesalers before settling down in Scotland as an outdoor instructor, educator, and guide, leading groups across the UK and overseas. I spend as much of my time as possible exploring the great outdoors and the beautiful wild areas found across the country, whether that be on foot, bike or on the water.

    Places to play

You can spend time all over the World, but you’ll come back to Scotland. For me some of the best places are bikepacking and island hopping around the West coast, or walking in to some of the more remote Munros in the Cairngorms.

Not a lot of People know this

If not out exploring the mountains, I am a bit of a secret Trekkie and could be found watching a good, or not so good, sci-fi. Or maybe even in the bowling alley where I have full university colours and a PB of over 250!

Growing up on a small farm in the Yorkshire Dales I have always had an appreciation of the outdoors, but it wasn’t until I was in my early twenties that I truly embraced outdoor adventures. Since then I have been lucky enough to travel, walk, climb, cycle and work on three continents and in numerous countries. I have held the mountain leader qualification for over ten years now, and biking qualifications for half that, and have loved taking others to the places I love to go; passing on some of my enthusiasm for the outdoors on the way.

    Biggest Adventure Read More

I have done various big trips around the World, with treks across Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic, a variety of trips to Scandinavia and a month in Tanzania guiding on Mt.Meru and Kilimanjaro; but summer 2022 looks like it will be my biggest adventure yet, with a 2000 mile personal bikepacking expedition all across Scotland for charity.

Having a degree in geology certainly gives me a much deeper appreciation of our beautiful mountain landscapes and their formations as I explore everything from my local patch to the wider World, and I am always happy to wax lyrical about anything rock-based if allowed. But also beware, if you ask me anything about whisky and the finer points of the dram… I may also do the same!
