    Mini Bio

As a child, my grandparents had a caravan in Kippford, which we holidayed at every year. This was where I fell in love with Scotland and camping out under the stars.

Nowadays, I’m an adventurer and nomad exploring Scotland, sometimes moving on two wheels, on foot, or in a boat.

When I’m not exploring, I can be found in my overalls. As a mechanic, fabricator, and joiner, there aren’t many things I won’t try to repair.

    Favourite Place to Play

West coast is the best coast. It was the part of Scotland that stole my heart first and convinced me to leave a life in the corporate world for other possibilities. The grey dogs tide race is my favourite place on earth. Islay; if the destination is whisky.

Not a lot of People Know This

I have a maths degree as well as a bus & truck license. Probably a rare combination.

    Experience Read More

I’ve led groups all across Scotland, on the waves or on land. Recently my focus has been the North Coast and the Outer Hebrides, but I’ve travelled all across the UK to take in the best that the outdoors has to offer.

    Biggest Adventure Read More

My biggest adventure will always be the little woodland excursions I took as a kid near my grandparents’ caravan, something about them just always sticks in my head! Since then I’ve had many expeditions but nothing quite comes close to that.

Paul was a great guide - knowledgeable, thoughtful and a good sense of humour - which he needed with four women of a certain age! He adapted the walks on the two wet days and we appreciated the hot coffee he provided in the van.

Paul was attentive to the travellers requirements. He was well informed and communicative. He entered into the fun of the group but still challenged us to push us to go further without compromising safety

Rob, Andrew and Nicky were fantastic - flexible, adaptable, knowledgeable and good company. They all worked incredibly hard to make it a fantastic trip for us.

We were fortunate enough to meet 3 guides this trip. Each were spectacular, knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining.

Struan did a great job but the trip description supplied was a bit wrong - he sorted it out clearly and told us what was happening. He was very impressive all round - a promising young man.

Struan - fabulous, fabulous, fabulous! And he was a last-minute stand-in for Sam who was unwell. We couldn't have anyone better. Thank you Struan!

I really loved Rob, our kayaking guide - also David Hull the naturalist of Insh Marshes, Tim and Harris had great insights and Ruth got us to the sea eagle - but for sheer feeling good and learning about nature - David Hull was my personal favorite. I really enjoyed Scott in the Cairngorm - he was great - was sad we didn't see the deer.

Ruth on the Isle of Mull was amazing!! Her knowledge was extraordinary. She was passionate about the island, its wildlife and community and her homemade lunch of soup, sandwiches and cake were marvellous too!

David the RSPB volunteer was also very informative and had a good sense of humour. A lovely man who seemed geniunely pleased when we picked out birds and other widlife and asked questions.

Harris at the badger hide was a charming chap. He was as thrilled as us to see the the badgers and pine marten even though he does it every day! A lovely fellow who is very passionate about his work.

We all felt in very safe hands with Scott in the Cairgorms during our hike. A clearly extremely accomplished climber with a wealth of experience and knowledge. He put us all at ease and kept us up to date on the paths we were to take. He also seemed interested in where we were all from and what our stories were.

Sam was excellent (as outlined in previous comments). A natural guide and very organised. His positivity and humour kept us all suitably bouyed throughout the trip!

This was our first experience with a self guided plus trip. Sam was the perfect soigneur! He had great suggestions about our routes each day, particularly when we had some bad weather in the forecast. He had some great suggestions to maximize the beautiful riding days and make the rainy days more comfortable. He kept the bikes in perfect working order and always seemed to be waiting for us with tea and snacks just at the right time when we needed a boost. He was professional, knowledgeable, warm and had a great sense of humor. My daughter and I felt like we had this great adventure that was just the two of us, but with a wonderful supporter that meant we could just focus on the ride knowing Sam had all the details taken care of. This is my 5th trip with WS and the guides have always been top notch. Sam has absolutely lived up to our high expectation. He is a top guide to be sure.

Sam was fantastic! He was always very cheerful and fun, and introduced us to all the good UK sweets. He was fully prepared for every change in weather, and other obstacles that were thrown at us. He was an absolutely lovely person, and we all had loads of fun!
