    Mini Bio

I am now living the dream in my third career having worked in marketing, then as a teacher and now as an outdoor instructor, walking guide and leadership development facilitator. I am happiest when outdoors and preferably up a mountain, either on skis or on foot.

My love for Scotland developed when we lived in Edinburgh and then Perth. It’s such an amazing place to explore during any season of the year. I am now based in Southern England, but my car knows the route North very well!

    Places to play

Assynt – North West Scotland! The landscape and mountains are immortalised by the pen of Norman MacCaig who enquired:
    “Who possesses this landscape?
The man who bought it or
I who am possessed by it?”

Not a lot of people know this

I am fiercely competitive and have skied and windsurfed at a national level.

My proudest adventure was completing the Winter Haute Route – Chamonix – Zermat in adverse weather conditions.

Having an inquisitive mind, I love to have an understanding of everything around me. Flora and fauna and their surrounding landscapes fascinate me and I probably spend far too much time taking photos and Googling answers to questions!

I was Editor of the RYA Windsurfing Member’s magazine. I would love to write a walking guide to Dorset – where we currently live – there is so much to see and explore.

    Adventurer's Stories about Tania

Tania was terrific. She was creative in her choices of restaurants and adaptable to her clients. In our case, she was very sensitive to unexpected needs of my husband and we so very much appreciated her empathy and efforts to accommodate.

Tania was excellent. We very much enjoyed getting to know her throughout the week. She was personable and very well suited for her role.

I would go out of my way to book another tour with her.

This was my first visit to England and first guided hiking trip. I could not have asked for a more knowledgeable guide, or a more attentive host. Tania Deacon exceeded my expectations about the guide's role and leadership for this adventure in every way. Her people skills and positive attitude were exemplary.

Give her a raise. Adjust the itinerary as she sees fit.

Tania was exceptional! Part mother hen, part chauffeur, part concierge, she also had excellent knowledge about the trail, the sights, the flora, the birds...etc. She made it fun and interesting and really went the extra mile.
We had a person in the group who couldn't do some of the walking and Tania made special arrangements for him every day.
She also ran interference with the hotel if we needed it.

    Make Trip Private

Sometimes it's nice to get family and friends together and travel privately for some quality time. This means you benefit from all the features of the group departure, including hand-picked accommodation and expert local guides and we'll take care of it all. Then you can make your choice of departures dates and we'll get back to you to finalise the details.

We work together with our team of guides to decide which departures they lead each year. As part of that, guides provide available dates that they are free to be booked. This means that any of the dates you see in the first field of the form below, could be perfect for your private departure or customised tour.
