    Mini Bio

I am now living the dream in my third career, having worked in marketing and PR, then as a maths and science teacher, and now as an outdoor instructor, walking guide, and leadership development facilitator. I am happiest when outdoors and preferably up a mountain, either on skis or on foot, showing visitors just how lucky we are to live here!

My love for Scotland developed when we lived in Edinburgh and then Perth. It’s such an amazing place to explore during any season of the year. I can’t wait to show you what a friendly, stunningly beautiful and diverse country Scotland is!

    Favourite Place to Play

Assynt – North West Scotland! The landscape and mountains are immortalised by the pen of Norman MacCaig who enquired:
    “Who possesses this landscape?
    The man who bought it,
or I who am possessed by it?”

Not a lot of People Know This

I am fiercely competitive and have skied and windsurfed at a national level.

In addition to walking extensively in Scotland and England, I have done numerous hut to hut skiing and walking tours in the European Alps and in the Atlas Mountains. I have worked as a Guide for Wilderness Scotland and Wilderness England since 2021 and am enjoying every moment of it!

Having an inquisitive mind, I love to have an understanding of everything around me. Flora and fauna and their surrounding landscapes fascinate me, and I probably spend far too much time taking photos and Googling answers to questions.

None yet, but I aspire to write walking guides for Dorset and the South West of England.

What Fellow Travellers Say About Tania

Tania was terrific. She was creative in her choices of restaurants and adaptable to her clients. In our case, she was very sensitive to unexpected needs of my husband and we so very much appreciated her empathy and efforts to accommodate.

Tania was excellent. We very much enjoyed getting to know her throughout the week. She was personable and very well suited for her role.

I would go out of my way to book another tour with her.

This was my first visit to England and first guided hiking trip. I could not have asked for a more knowledgeable guide, or a more attentive host. Tania Deacon exceeded my expectations about the guide's role and leadership for this adventure in every way. Her people skills and positive attitude were exemplary.

Give her a raise. Adjust the itinerary as she sees fit.

Tania was exceptional! Part mother hen, part chauffeur, part concierge, she also had excellent knowledge about the trail, the sights, the flora, the birds...etc. She made it fun and interesting and really went the extra mile.
We had a person in the group who couldn't do some of the walking and Tania made special arrangements for him every day.
She also ran interference with the hotel if we needed it.
