    Mini Bio

Before I moved to Scotland, I visited the country twice. Once with my parents at the age of 13 and the second time on a motorcycle trip around the north of Scotland. Both times I felt at home and on my third visit after finishing my university degree, I met Rosie, my partner. She is Scottish and from Edinburgh, after a few visits, we decided that I should move over and give it a try. That was ten years ago and I never looked back.

Since being in Scotland, I started to work in the outdoors as a guide for various groups and location all over the country.

    Place to play

There are so many places in Scotland to play; some are more known than others. If I have to make a call as to where to go then, it would be the inner Hebrides, North West Highlands, and the Cairngorms.

Not a lot of people know this

I was born in former East Germany. More than 70 % of the price of whisky is the tax. Loch Ness is the biggest Loch in Great Britain by volume, with 7.45 km³.

    Adventurer's Stories about Benjamin

Because our trip was lengthy, we experienced three different guides contracted by Wilderness Scotland. All were excellent, with their defining characteristics being: (1} they were highly knowledgeable concerning both the human and natural history of the regions we visited, (2) they quickly ascertained our interests and appetite for level of activity and adjusted the day's activities accordingly, and (3) they were unfailingly positive ambassadors for Scotland!

Mungo Ross and Ben Muller were both excellent guides. They were well versed in the history of the area, came up with wonderful places for us to see, and were just enjoyable to spend time with.

We only spent two days with Mungo, but were grateful for how he helped us track down our luggage at a warehouse near Edinburgh airport. We also loved the hikes he guided us on. . .especially going up Devil's staircase and then on to the top of the peak nearby which is part of the West Highland Trail.

We had 9 great days with Ben who did an amazing job filling our days with interesting sightseeing and great hiking routes. His familiarity with the entire Highlands area is most impressive. He did a great job arranging a boat trip in Ullapool after our shellfish safari was cancelled, brought the history of the region to life, took us on great hiking trails, incorporated visits to a leather tannery company, the Gairloch museum and the botanical garden, and was attentive to my preferences on the terrain we transversed. You are lucky to have him as part of the Wilderness travel team.

Our guide Ben (McKenzie Tours) did a fantastic job with the trails he took us on for our hikes. He also made suggestions in addition to the notes that were provided for our self guided tour.

Ben was our guide. He juggled weather, our group's interests and abilities to make the trip one filled with great memories. He was well informed, always cheerful and patient and, his special gifts I think, are his love of Scotland and his true enjoyment of people.

Ben Müller. We don’t have enough superlatives for his professionalism, kindness and ability to create an amazing experience for each person. He is knowledgeable about the history, geology, flora and fauna everywhere we visited. There was a wide range of ability in the group, but I bet each person would say they had a wonderful trip. Plus, he is funny and fun to be with. We all laughed a lot, even in some crummy weather.
Before the trip I told Bridget that two of us have an interest in textiles. On Harris, Ben took us to a home weaver shed where everyone was fascinated. He could have just taken us to the Harris Tweed Shop in Tarbert, but he went beyond.
We would travel with him again in a heartbeat.

Ben was incredibly patient and accommodating of group demands. In a group of varying ability he ensured everyone was comfortable with the hike undertaken. His passion for Scotland was very clearly on display in his provision of information concerning the locations hiked through.

Ben was great. He knew the hikes and was a trusty guide. There were a few little glitches beyond his control and he handled them with ease and always had a Plan B if needed. He was attentive to each of us in the group equally not just "special ones". He had an easy going personality that made him comfortable to be with and he was professional in his demeanor. I'm not much of a history buff so listening to dates is hard for me but stories about a site are more intriguing and that would make it easier for me to be attentive. Ben clearly has a love of Scotland and it shows which added to the fun of being there. I loved when he'd talk about the culture of Scotland. I'd happily go on another trip with Ben as the guide.
