Mini Blog
My first experience of the outdoors was camping, age 6, with my parents. Since then I have walked, cycled, and camped in many of the most beautiful wild places in Scotland. Born in Inverness, I had a career in construction based in Glasgow. My work took me all over Scotland including Shetland, Orkney, Skye, Outer Hebrides, and from Durness in the north to Stranraer in the south. I now split my time between being in the mountains and playing/teaching bridge.
Fifteen years ago, I became a leader with the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and currently work professionally with various schools and centres.
Place to Play
The Cairngorms have been my playground since my first camping trip to Loch Morlich. All seasons, all weather, working out multi day trips linking up the beautiful glens. Glencoe, with its history and stunning scenery is also a favourite, and more recently have been working my way around the outer islands – camping on remote beaches takes some beating!
Also love Italy, so much so that I learned Italian, and have walked in the Dolomites, Tuscany, Gran Sasso, Amalfi, and Sicily.
Not a lot of people know
I used to build sailing canoes with my Dad. Our first sail was made out of a gingham picnic table cover – I don’t think my Mum ever found out where it went!
