    European Visitors

During 2020 nothing will change for travel between the UK and Europe for EU, EAA and Swiss citizens. For short visits to the UK, you will not require a visa. You will need a valid passport to enter the UK, and if you have less than six months remaining on your passport please check with the border authorities before you travel. If you are an EU citizen, or from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, you can travel with a passport or an identity card. Identity cards may not be accepted after 2020.

    US Visitors

For US visitors to Scotland and the UK, there has been no change and there will be no change to the current close ties of no visa for US and UK citizens crossing the Atlantic for stays of less than 90 days. All you need to do is turn up at the airport with your passport (with at least six months validity remaining) and board the plane as normal. There is absolutely no talk of disruption to flights to the UK and the EU has specifically agreed that there would be no change to any flight rules until 2021 at the earliest.

The same rules apply for the foreseeable future as before the 31st  of January 2020. If you are a European citizen and you have driven from Europe to the UK, your EU driving license will still be valid for all vehicles permitted on your EU license.

If you are driving from outside the EU, a valid license from your own country will be accepted for small vehicles like cars or motorcycles.

Please note that you will need to have at least third party insurance to drive in the UK and that you are required to bring your vehicle registration and ownership documents.

    Visas Read More

During 2020 you can still enter the UK without a visa if you’re a citizen of any other EU or EEA country, or Switzerland. This will be the case until the 31st of December 2020, after which please check www.gov.uk/guidance/visiting-the-uk-after-brexit for more information.

If your travelling from anywhere else in the world, you can check if you need to apply for a visa here.

    Insurance Read More

As always it is important that you have adequate travel insurance which covers your specific needs, including any known medical conditions or activities you plan to do. It is also worth checking the detail of the policy around travel disruption including delays or cancellations as policies do vary.

    European Health Insurance Read More

If you are a European citizen you can still use your EHIC card in the UK until at least the 31st of December 2020. Please note, that this is not an alternative for comprehensive travel insurance.
