Helen was very informative and knowledgeable. A great balance of friendly, fun and firm when needed.
Accommodation and Food
Accommodation was quite modest (2 star? on several occassions) - for the not inconsiderable price of the package (West Highland Way). Breakfast was always good despite bedroom facilities. I believe dinner (e.g., £15.00) every night should have been included. Surprised we paid for all but two meals in the evening - again given the price we paid.

TEAM WILDERNESS RESPONSE:

Thank so much for your feedback, accommodation on the West Highland Way is limited but we do only use accommodations that are 3 star or more. I know a few of the accommodations you stayed in were 4 star guest houses so I am surprised you didn't like them. The accommodations are usually in older, traditional buildings so the rooms can be smaller than modern hotels but I am glad you enjoyed breakfast. Dinner is not included every night to give you a bit more freedom and allow you to choose one course or 3 courses depending on how you are feeling.
Your Guide
Helen Marsden was a central part of the great safety we felt and the overall experience and fun we had. Thank you. Cathy.
The Bottom Line
Wonderful. Great way to experience Scotland's mountains for the first time.

TEAM WILDERNESS RESPONSE:

Sounds like you had a fantastic trip overall and hopefully we can welcome you back to the Highlands soon.

I liked the guides' kindness and humour, as well as the choice of the trails, even if they were harder than expected.
Trip Comments
I especially liked the landscapes and the people I have met
Accommodation and Food
Nothing to criticise, except the fact that the food in the restaurants was often really sweet (d caloric).
Your Guide
There were absolutely adorable.
The Bottom Line
It was really a nice trip, and I was in great company. Choose easy trails, because they are more difficult than what you would think.

I prefer circular walks rather than there and back. There was only 1 circular walk - Isle of Scalpay... very good.
Trip Comments
good guide and group of people prepared to get along with each other and of course - the HEBRIDES themselves AND in good weather what luck!
Accommodation and Food
STEIN Inn could do with some better mattresses
Pop UP and Community CAFE excellent additions to the rather stodgy food at the Harris Hotel - not many vegetables in sight or indeed a salad. Very Scottish
Your Guide
Gill gauged the tempo of the group well - very slow which suited all. Pleasant and patient
The Bottom Line
A good experience of the Hebrides, suitable for all

The group turned out to be very good and fun. We all would have liked the camping to be 'wilder' unfortunately several nights were spent not far from a busy road, which we could hear.
Accommodation and Food
Great effort was made to vary the food, which worked, still a little too much flour based basics, rolls/pancakes/pasta x 2..The equipment that I hired (sleeping mat and tent) were just adequate, in fact the sleeping mat was cheap, thin and fairly useless.
Your Guide
Grant was very laid-back yet directive! Maybe not enough local information/history as we paddled through, but perhaps he was waiting to be asked
The Bottom Line
Great trip, I'm very glad to have done it, it is a challenge and requires a good level of physical fitness and endurance, it's a slow sport, which tires you out in the most pleasant way.

Rachael Gavan was helpful with all of our arrangements, particularly since we missed booking on a regular trip by just a few hours. We inquired from the states and were beat our by locals. However, she suggested that we set up a private tour, and are very pleased we were able to take advantage of the option.
Trip Comments
We had a great guide who was very flexible and accommodating.
Accommodation and Food
Here is the rub. Because our tour overlapped with the regular tour, we were disadvantaged in that we did not, as far as I can determine, have the same quality accommodations. We could not stay in the same location for the week and moved about. Most disappointing was that at the last Inn, The Ferry in Stromness, which was lovely. Unfortunately, we were separated and one member of our threesome had a lovely room in the Inn and my husband and I were housed in the "annex' across the street. This required us to travel to and from the main Inn for breakfast and/or main meal. The difference in the accommodations was striking. It may have been a mix up at registration, but our friend, as single traveler, had a large room, with a king sized bed and we had twin beds. The decor of the main Inn was charming and the annex was more like a dorm room. I would not have wished this on our friend but the inequality, especially at the higher price we paid to have a private trip and to have this disparity in quality, was very disappointing.

The guide we had, Iain Radkin, was fantastic and the food in the restaurants he arranged was of quality.
Your Guide
Iain was outstanding. He was knowledgeable, very flexible, interactive and worked diligently to meet all of our requests. We couldn't have asked for anyone better.
The Bottom Line
Overall our experience was very positive, however I was surprised that a private tour was spotty inspire of paying extra for the experience.

Great guide, lovely places. Fantastic food. Guide really knew his history.

Would have liked a map as part of the trip itinerary and a map given to us at the start of the trip. Would also have been useful to have on the intinerary the time spend on board the bus when travelling between the hotel and the start of walks. Also we specified for a twin room which we did not get.
Accommodation and Food
Specified twin beds which we did not get.

TEAM WILDERNESS RESPONSE:

Thanks very much for the feedback. Unfortunately your room preference was not passed on to us by your travel agent so we weren’t aware of that request but it sounds like you had a wonderful trip anyway!
Your Guide
Loved the history knowledge of the guide and he was very good with getting us fruit and snacks.

The food in the hotels was good and we enjoyed our stays in the Torridon and Forss House Hotels

The hotel in Lochinver is a very soulless place which has no atmosphere, especially when compared to the other hotels. Not a reflection on the staff or indeed any single aspect. We fully understand why there aren't any external shots of the building!
Your Guide
Alan was great, knowledgeable, friendly and flexible. Chose a good route which took into account the weather conditions, it was blowing a gale.
The Bottom Line
The map for the NC500 would be much more use than the OS map which you include in your pack. It includes necessary information for a touring holiday such as petrol.
We think you should look to refine your recommendations for eating out, for instance the Lochinver larder is closed on Sundays and the Captains Galley in Scrabster is only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and unfortunately Thurso doesn't offer many alternatives.

Disappointed we booked within days of a promotional event (Black Friday I think) & it wasn't extended to us. Not too big of a deal, but we paid in full way before our trip & were still invoiced with several emails. Had to retrace my receipt to show we paid.

at times it felt as if the restaurant selections were hit or miss. There were plenty of fish and chips recommendations, to the point that I thought it was all that Scotland had to offered.
